Eligibility Requirements
- Residence in Good Shepherd Hospital service area (zip codes: 60010, 60012, 60013, 60014, 60021, 60042, 60047, 60050, 60051, 60060, 60067, 60073, 60084, 60098, 60102, 60110 and 60156
- Acceptance into a Health Care Professional Program including the following:
- Nursing
- Nurse Practitioner
- Occupational therapist
- Pharmacy
- Physical therapist
- Physical therapy
- Physician
- Physician Assistant
- Radiology/Imaging
- Social Work
- Speech and language pathology
This scholarship aids students majoring in a Health Care Professional field who reside in the hospital service area. Applications are available in February and the deadline for submittal of the completed application including current references, transcripts, and proof of acceptance into a Health Care Professional program is in early April. Applicants are evaluated based on attitude and desire toward education, leadership, citizenship, personality, and financial need. The number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon the number and qualifications of the applicants and all finalists are interviewed at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
Applications are to be completed online, and along with an essay, and grade transcript, as well as teacher recommendations, which may be sent separately. All information must be received by June 15th, 2025. Interviews will be scheduled for early to mid-May and will be Zoom interviews.

The Volunteer Auxiliary, together with community volunteers, organize and support the Art in the Barn each September. Proceeds from this event support Hospital Initiatives, Patient Comfort Items, and local student Healthcare Scholarships.

Catchpenny Resale Shoppe, supported by the Volunteer Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Hospital, was established over 50 years ago. The proceeds from the Resale Shoppe support various Hospital Initiatives, Patient Comfort Items, and local student Healthcare Scholarships.

National Nurses Week: This week-long celebration, occurring from May 6th to 12th, is a nationwide event to honor nurses and their dedication to patient care.
Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital: Sponsors many events recognizing the vital contributions of nurses including raising funds to contribute to the Volunteer Auxilary Healthcare Scholarship Fund.
